Founded by Paul Harpin and curated by Typespec, Buy Fonts Save Lives sells typefaces to raise money to support Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Pentagram partner, who served as art director of The New York Times Magazine up until December, has put his Blakey Slab typeface to work for the ACLU, and his MFred and TIMMONS typefaces collectively raised nearly $90,000 for Cancer Research UK and Macmillman Cancer Support via BuyFontsSaveLives.
If the typeface has "business" and "personal" licenses and you intend on using it for commercial purposes you should buy the business license. Other that that, you are free to use it commercially (that is the reason most people buy typefaces in the first place).
Before you print your design, you should always convert your text to outlines (unless it features only very popular typefaces), because a printer provider cannot possibly license all typefaces that its clients are using.

Alas, at the end of the road we come to the great extistential quandry of need. This is where my greatest weakness lies. I covet typefaces. I follow type designers on Twitter and Instagram and tell them when their new typeface has a particularly sexy Q, (this really happened) and would spend my life collecting beautiful fonts. The only thing keeping me from this dream-life is the need to pay bills and feed myself. This hasn't stopped me, only slowed me down. After a year or so of joyful impulse buying, I realized I was buying these beautiful pieces but probably never going to use them. I had to make a rule for myself that I would only buy new fonts when they were specifcally needed for a client project, or had a great sale! So at the end of it all ask yourself, do I need it? 781b155fdc
